Headteacher’s Autumn Half Term Letter

Posted in: News Archive

Well, there you go… Summer has passed away, nights are drawing in and the move away from canvas shoes into something more weather proof becomes a topic for family conversation…

We have had an exceptionally positive start to the year, our best exam results ever, really lovely Graduation Ceremony and very positive meetings with parents at our Curriculum Information evenings. Thank you for all your attendance and feedback.

One of the main areas for focus was the setting of homework. All students have their homework timetables as a sticker on their diaries. All staff set their homework on the Information Portal according to this timetable.

The Senior Leadership Team monitor the frequency on the portal every two weeks and respond to individuals if we have concern. Mr Duffy will carry out a Quality Assurance of the marking of the work and ensure this is being recorded accurately. The Leadership Team will then sample the work and ensure it is at the appropriate level and supporting progress.

Please go to the Information Portal and you will be able to see the work, when set and when due for each subject.

If you have any concerns or need information regarding homework, contact the teacher in the first instance. If you have any further need for school response, please contact Mr Duffy who will log all emails or calls to enable the Senior Leadership Team to follow up any strategic inconsistencies.

I would be very grateful for any responses on the effectiveness of this new system that has been designed to meet the needs of parents with respect to the consistent approach to setting of homework.

The use of the Information Portal will be of huge support to you, we have completed some major developments across last year. If you access this you may see live; attendance, behaviour and progress data. You may also view your child’s reports, targets and historical progress. You may book appointments for all parents’ events and contact staff with one click on their email address.

If you have any problems or need any further information regarding the Information Portal, please contact Mr Duffy (email on the website if you can’t access the Portal).

We have a full programme of parent consultations after half term, for every year. Please check the calendar and book your appointments early.

If you have any concerns or need any particular information regarding any aspect of your child’s progress or their school experience, please email and ask.

Please make a note in your diary, the carol service at St Margaret’s in Rottingdean on the 4th December. This is a very wonderful community event that start the sleigh bells ringing!

We aim to meet your needs where ever possible and are determined to be the best we can, in support of your children.

Thank you for your continued support.
