Centre Manager, Allan Parker-Read, told us, “We have great facilities here, with a fully-equipped fitness suite and various fitness classes during the evening, including a new Boxfit class.  There is also a Beauty Room on-site, as well as massage and physiotherapy services.  Of course we have a café as well, if you need refreshments after your exercise or just to relax over a coffee with friends.”

Longhill Sports Centre boasts a wealth of facilities, which include two sports halls, two dance studios, three football pitches, a rugby pitch, eight tennis courts and a theatre and conference suite. The Sports Centre lies in a beautiful sheltered valley, nestled between Ovingdean and Rottingdean, to the east of Brighton and Hove and all their facilities are available for public use.  The possibilities are endless, for example, last year they hosted a wonderful weekend for drone enthusiasts from all over the country!

The Longhill Sports Centre team are an enthusiastic, positive bunch and will offer all their clients a warm welcome.  Sports Coach and Centre Shift Supervisor, Gary Dove, told us some of the things he enjoys about the Centre, “I like working in a sporty fitness environment and the mix of age-groups we deal with from very young pre-school gymnastics to our super-seniors exercise classes, who are over 55.  We have a husband and wife who come in regularly that are in their late 70s.”

Gary went on to explain about the Centre’s ‘Hall of Fame’ in the foyer. “The Hall of Fame started about 5 years ago, when two of our previous PE teachers had a number of signed shirts and memorabilia from Longhill students who had gone on to be professional sports people.”

“The Centre Manager framed the football, cricket and rugby shirts, as well as memorabilia from other sports.  Ex-Longhill students have represented team GB at the Olympics in judo, archery and tae kwon do.  The ‘Hall of Fame’ is always a talking-point for people new to the centre.  The latest addition is world champion K1 Thai kick boxer Shaina’s track suit – so the tradition carries on.”

The Centre is immensely proud to have set up the ‘Hall of Fame’ and will continue to add to it as more Longhill students go on to sporting success.

Ryan Powell has worked at the Centre for nearly 4 years and is an ex-Longhill and BHASVIC student.  He said, “Lots of people go into their offices and do the same thing every day, but at Longhill Sports Centre there are different challenges every day.  I like running the different activities – children’s tennis on a Thursday, or Football Academies on a Tuesday for 5-9 year olds – I’m the assistant coach.”

He added, “It’s a very positive place to work, we get feedback from our customers and the kids; all you want to do is put a smile on their faces and that’s what we do with our products and services here.”
