Longhill High School’s International Visitors
This week we’ve had 19 visitors from a school in Madrid, Spain, as part of our on-going partnership with the UK High School Immersion Programme.
The students have been a wonderful part of the Longhill family, attending lessons with their buddies as well as a workshop about personal safety and even participating in mock exams.
Some students have had the opportunity to present sections of Modern Foreign Languages lessons, introducing themselves in Spanish and leading part of the class with Mr Chesters, Ms Perronno and Ms Stallard. Their teacher Isabel has worked with the Modern Foreign Languages department and visited English lessons to see how the English education system differs from what she’s used to in Spain.
We ran an after school session for Year 10 and Year 11 which gave our students more focused time to work with their buddies on speaking skills, and also did speaking group work in Year 11 lessons. After school, the Spanish students have been on a variety of trips with UKHSI, visiting the village of Rottingdean, Brighton Pier and the Lanes (despite some traditionally British weather trying to get in their way!)
We have been running this project for two years and it is hugely beneficial to the Longhill students, who get to practice their Spanish whilst understanding the importance of learning English for their international buddies too.
The Modern Foreign languages department would like to thank all Longhill staff and students for their ongoing support of the link with UKHSI and for welcoming our visitors to Longhill and making them feel at home.
