Girls in STEM
January 22-26th will see a week of events to inspire and inform girls about the opportunities for women in science. It is open to girls from 12 secondary schools across Brighton and Hove, experiencing hands-on physics, engineering, maths and coding in a variety of workshops at both Hove Park School and Sussex University.
On Tuesday 23rd January, girls from Y7-9 will have a day of workshops including Shattering Stereotypes, Lego Mindstorms Beach Clean – a blend of sustainability and coding, and Magical Maths. They will then attend a talk with Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock – famous space scientist and broadcaster, and presenter of The Sky at Night amongst her many credits.
On Wednesday 24th January, students in year 10 – 11 will visit Sussex University Physics department, where they will have workshops in Investigating Spectra, Exoplanets and a Planetarium show.
