Poetry Live!

Last week we took over 70 Year 10 and 11 students to the Poetry Live Event at the Dome Theatre, to see 4 of their GCSE poets.

It was a great opportunity to hear from Simon Armitage, one of Britain’s best poets, read his work from the anthology. Carol Ann Duffy who is one of the most read, studied and loved of today’s poets. John Agard gave one of the most exciting performances in contemporary poetry, not only in the way he delivers his poems, but also in how he talks about them. There was also be unmissable readings from award-winning poets Imtiaz Dharker and Daljit Nagra.

Examiner sessions was also featured at the event, with highly experienced Chief Examiners explaining the two skills vital for success in the GCSE English Literature examinations. The first session looked at how students might deal with unseen poems in the exam. The second session focused on comparing poems.
