Higher Education – Sussex University Programme
Fifteen Year 9 pupils from Longhill High School are embarking on a transformative journey as part of a three-year programme led by the Widening Participation team at Sussex University. The initiative aims to support learners from under-represented backgrounds in higher education, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions about their future.
The programme offers a diverse range of activities, including team-building exercises, campus visits, subject masterclasses, and celebration events. This week, students participated in a full day of workshops centered on sports-related topics, offering a fascinating glimpse into the interplay between academics and athletics.

Next, the spotlight shifted to the economics of sports, with a workshop examining how financial considerations shape the industry. Topics included player salaries, sponsorship deals, operational costs, and revenue generation. Students were challenged to create their own fictional sports clubs, presenting plans that integrated ticket sales, merchandise, stadium costs, and player acquisitions.
