GCSE Drama Students Experience The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

Longhill High School’s Year 11 GCSE Drama students recently had the incredible opportunity to attend a performance of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the Theatre Royal in Brighton. Led by Mrs. Fenwick, Head of Faculty for PE and Performing Arts, the trip aimed to enhance students’ understanding of theatrical performance as they prepare to review the production for their GCSE Drama written exam.

The show, originally staged in London’s West End in 2022, has been transformed into a visually stunning and immersive musical experience. The beloved tale, adapted from C.S. Lewis’ classic novel, captivated audiences with its breathtaking staging, enchanting music, and innovative puppetry. One of the most remarkable elements was the portrayal of Aslan, brought to life through intricate puppetry and the outstanding performance of Stanton Wright, who fully embodied the majestic character.

For many students, this was not just a chance to analyse the performance but also to experience the magic of live theatre. The atmosphere, the set design, and the powerful performances left a lasting impression on everyone who attended. The trip reinforced the importance of live theatre in understanding dramatic storytelling, providing students with an inspiring experience that will undoubtedly enrich their exam reviews.

Longhill High School is proud to offer enriching experiences like this, allowing students to immerse themselves in the arts and develop a deeper appreciation for the world of theatre.
