Brilliant Brains Neuroscience Day – University of Sussex
On Thursday 26th June 2025, a group of Year 9 pupils took part in the Brilliant Brains Neuroscience Day at the University of Sussex, an exciting event run in collaboration with Brighton and Sussex Medical School. The day provided a stimulating and hands-on introduction to neuroscience, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among all attendees.
Throughout the day, pupils participated in a variety of interactive workshops exploring how the brain functions, how we learn, and how brain signals can be harnessed to control external objects – including influencing other people’s movements! These sessions were designed to be highly engaging, and they successfully captured the imagination of our students.

In addition to the scientific activities, pupils had the opportunity to speak with current University students, giving them valuable insight into life in Higher Education and possible future pathways in science, psychology, or medicine.
The trip ran smoothly from start to finish, with interesting talks in breaks and lunch provided in the brilliant food hall, serving Asian, Italian, middle east or English food. Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many buzzing with excitement and discussing their favourite parts of the day on the journey home.

With excellent organisation from staff and hosts, all the sessions were pitched perfectly and kept students actively involved and curious throughout. On the journey back to school, the coach was filled with lively discussion as pupils reflected on what they had learned and shared their excitement about the experience.
It was a thoroughly inspiring day that left pupils buzzing with new knowledge the wider world of scientific discovery.
