University of Brighton – Uni Connect Experience
A group of enthusiastic students from Longhill High School recently visited the University of Brighton’s Moulsecoomb campus as part of the Uni Connect experience – an initiative designed to help young people explore future education and career opportunities.
The visit offered students an exciting and informative day, starting with a guided tour of the campus. Led by University of Brighton student ambassadors, the tour gave our pupils a real taste of university life. From lecture theatres to student accommodation, the tour helped demystify what it’s like to study at a university, and many students expressed that it made higher education feel more accessible and less intimidating.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the ‘Robot Wars’ activity. In this hands-on workshop, students were challenged to build their own miniature battle robots using a variety of materials and components. With guidance from university staff and student engineers, teams designed and built their robots using motors, receivers and power packs inside a hand-built cardboard frame. They then competed against each other as their robots took part in a football match and then a battle!
Students returned to Longhill buzzing with excitement and full of new ideas. Many said the experience had made them think differently about their future options, with some expressing a new interest in subjects such as engineering, robotics, and computing.

We’re incredibly proud of how engaged and enthusiastic our students were throughout the day. A huge thank you to the staff and ambassadors at the University of Brighton for hosting us, and to the Uni Connect programme for making this opportunity possible.
